Homework Question - Legal Project

I am a junior non legal student (currently studying a legal course) and have been presented with a homework question about an employee that comes across as being confident, mature, ready to tackle any task.

1. This employee usually handles family law matters however is filling in for conveyancing paralegal who is away for 2 weeks.
2. Senior partner asks paralegal for s149 certificate for sale of property however this paralegal does not have a clue where to search for such a document.
3. Paralegal becomes emotional, then goes onto internet to search and after 40 minutes thinks that she has understood what was required of her and prepares a cheque requisition form for $400 and thinks that this amount debited from client account should cover costs.

The question here is how could this paralegal have better approached/handled this situation and what guidance could you give to new clerks who find themselves in this situation?

I'm a law student myself and I don't agree that we should be posting our homework questions here.

However, logically, shouldn't the paralegal simply have asked the senior partner where to go for such a certificate?

Not that I speak for any lawyer here except myself,
but I think you'll find that most of us will only help as much as we think appropriate,
which, sometimes, is not at all.

This is the first time I have used this forum and noted that there were quite a few "homework" questions raised therefore followed suit by adding my homework question. I thank you however for your feedback along with the other response I received.
