I'm not sure what my rights are. Please advise me.

I have a group of people spreading rumours that is causing a lot of hate. Initially, I wasn't concerned about it. After few years now I have people distancing themselves and basically I'm left isolated. They sabotage my reputation by putting massive effort to discredit me on my qualification and skills. I've heard that I take drugs (never did) and that I lie constantly. I draw portraits, I heard 'they' spread the word that they are not my drawings and I make things up. Now when I go out I have people attacking me (I was pushed purposely a few times). I don't know what prove I need for this type of issue.

I can ignore it but it seems like it's getting worse. For instance, now I have strangers calling out my name and using very foul language (it happened a few times and saw these people later with the same group of people that creates the usual problems). Another time I ignored these people at a party, they followed me and pinched me from behind. After that they spread the rumour that I in fact was the person who did it to them and now they are seeking help from other members of the community for protection (against me). I'm having all sorts of problems from these people. When I come across them I see them pointing and laughing at me and mimicking the way I walk or talk etc. It keeps going on. I feel embarrassed and humiliated. What's worse is that these people are spreading the word that I'm doing these things to them and they are the ones getting help and support leaving me more vulnerable. What can I do legally? What will you call this?

Defamation is your civil remedy.

I have no idea what is going on or why, so I ask based solely on your post, have you considered whether there may be an undiagnosed mental illness involved here?

Thank you Rod
I never consider what you just stated, I don't know why. In past I was friends with these people (that's another strange thing) and learnt that they do actually have psychological issues. I even had one say that she hears voices telling her to do things. Honestly I thought they were making it up because they always laughed it off. However, I did try to help- it was a terrible mistake. I even guided them to seek help but I felt it was a temporary episode. I had one person say (jokingly) that I helped them (to get counselling) and they were making stories up about me instead to the therapist. I didn't think it was serious but they did in fact recruit more friends to 'protect' them from me. I started avoiding them. Now I'm also hearing that I am also 'psychologically sick' and need help but I've hardly spoke to them for almost 10 years so I can't understand how others can even believe these stories. However, they also spread that I still hang out with them. Last thing I heard was that I apparently went to a lady to get tarot reading, together with them. I had a old friend tell me this. This is not true because I stopped talking to them long time ago. It seemed they said other things too and she had hard time believing me on this too. I had her question me instead and asked - why this person would even lie about this. I honestly don't understand why too. Consequently, that friend stopped talking to me too thinking I'm lying about everything. I also had others tell me that they been telling other people that I stalk them and make home phone calls for harassment. Now I have people purposely hiding their phone numbers etc and saying I did make those calls. All I can think of is that these people are the ones calling them and mentioning my name to project the blame on me. How would I even report this stuff. It's all very damaging.

I have one friend who usually witnesses everything and it seems they are very much annoyed by her. I've been hearing people say, why does she have to hang out with her, why does she have to be with her all the time. They even had people send messages through my 'mum' (so strange) to why 'this' friend has to hang out with me. I actually called the police. I was too emotional and didn't know where to start. I was advised to write it down and that I can't prove anything and he also mentioned to not leave home alone and to have this friend around as much as possible, yet he said the police can't do much. As a result my friend wants to 'attack back' but I keep telling her that they are very manipulative (of course looking back at everything) and to keep away from them all.

Would a lawyer even consider this case?
Do you know any lawyers who can help (in Sydney)?

I feel it won't stop till I do something about it. If it did I wouldn't be concerned anymore but it seems it's getting worse in time. Their circle is growing and the hate is too. I fear for my safety as it appears they are also very much tuned with the law to plot things accordingly.

I know this thread is old but if this ever happens to anyone else, I recommend buying a good quality recorder and start to record these incidents down as proof for yourself or anyone else.

You can google search spy stores and get recorders designed to look like watches or pens.
You can put a camera in your car if you get stalked and write down the number plate
Parabolic Microphone, cable and plug into your mobile for recording
