Engaging a lawyer is up to you. A court appearance was required; if you don’t intend to fight against it then you have the option to plead guilty online and not have to go to the court hearing
Hi S.Camp - Police would have tracked it from my license I imagine. I never gave out my number initially, only my license and had to confirm that the address listed on it was still accurate. It may take a few weeks for them to contact you and it may be from a random number.

Hey there,

Thanks so much for your reply.

Okay good to know. Did they try to contact you by phone first?

Did the conversation at the station require a lawyer to be present?

I was approached by two men in normal clothes, i gave them all my items even ones i paid for because i was so scared.
No police were in volved nor did they count the items in front of me.

Im afraid this will go on my criminal record. Once you pay the fine, does it?

Hey S. Camp as mentioned in previous posts:

- They’ll try calling first. If that fails, visit your place. If that fails, they’ll leave a card telling you to call them back. (Where they will probably tell you to visit them for a conversation in person)
- Having a lawyer present is totally up to you - I didn't as I knew what I did wrong and was okay with owning up to it and taking on the consequences. But, if you personally would rather one, then consider talking to one for advice as this is just me personal opinion and experience.

Depending on your situation:
- If you gave the officers the items and didn't give them your license, I'd consider yourself lucky and its likely no police would be involved. Consider it a big warning and lesson learnt for you that no police and consequences like my situation will occur.
- If you did hand over your license, based off my experience its likely Police would be involved later. I was at least informed by them that they'd forward it onto Police and I will be contact.

From what I recall, the outcome after I pleaded guilty online when they had my hearing was no conviction recorded, so not a criminal record. But will still be recorded in my criminal history.

Hi S.camp4565.
I didn't realise when I replied to you yesterday that the amount involved was over $90, so you probably will get a call from Police (Police have access to a 'White Pages' for mobile phone numbers). I wouldn't stress too much because if you don't have any history apart from traffic offences you have a good chance of getting a Section 10. I wouldn't take the risk of pleading guilty in writing though. I'd appear in Court on the date of hearing and plead guilty there, in person, if that's what you want to do. They have Duty Solicitors in Court who will speak for you if you discuss the matter with them first and tell them how you want to plead. It's no big deal really. Walk up to the Bar Table when your name is called, the Magistrate will ask you why you did it and you simply tell him why, be apologetic, grovel a lot, and the chances are you'll get a Section 10. Most Magistrates are pretty reasonable, but, like everyone else you can get one who got out of the wrong side of the bed, so, if he/she is in a #@^+ mood on the day, chances are they'll convict everyone who pleads guilty in writing, but, if you rock up, plead your case, show remorse AND DONT SHOW UP WEARING T-SHIRT AND THONGS, chances are you'll get that Section 10. A Criminal conviction can really screw up your life in years to come in lots of ways; jobs, relationships, travel, etc, etc, etc. Good luck.

Hi Jslh, sorry to be pedantic, but exactly how many weeks did the police take to get in touch with you? Just wondering how long it will be before I can put this behind me. Thanks.
