From my own recent experience of my ex doing similar, it was all queried in correspondence between his and my lawyer. Somethings he ended up disclosing when obviously there was no way of hiding it but there were many things he thought I didn't have enough evidence. But they were things that I had knowledge of (although not the concrete proof apart from photos, videos and possibly witnesses at trial) - so mainly cash transactions and farm machinary/equipment and vehicles he was hiding or had registered in other partys' names. We have just settled a week before trial. Many things I had to let go of after weighing up the costs of pursuing it.

I agree with what you are saying. You may have to hire a forensic accountant which is no small cost, so again, is the cost worth it.
