Hi,
This evening in Coles I put a $6 item in the side pocket of my bag as I was walking round the store then picked up 2 items of which I paid for at the self service checkout. As I left the store I was stopped by a plain clothed person who declared herself as a loss prevention officer. I immediately declared I had made a mistake and presented them with the item in the side of my bag.
They took me over to the customer service and stated that they weren’t going to contact the police given the value and that I declared the item, but required me to complete a voulantary statement. I had to complete the form with the location, my ID details and a description of events, and they took a photo, they also scanned the item and attached a receipt to the statement probably to show the value. It was all very quick so I didn’t really question it much but they advised that because I was completing the form the police would not be informed, it was just for Coles records in case it happened again which I’m guessing then they would take to the police.
I’m just wondering if anyone has any advice on this please. By signing the statement will this just be kept with Coles and taken no further?
Thanks
