Hi all and thanks in advance,

We just had a car smash into several of our parked vehicles, which were parked on the street. 2 of the vehicles had car insurance, but one was unregistered and in the process of getting a blue slip. It looks like 2 of the vehicles will be a write off (1 of the insured vehicles and 1 which is unregistered).

Where do I stand in regards to claiming compensation for the unregistered vehicle? Would I need to go through a small claims court to try and claim for the damage done to the vehicle?

Thanks in advance.

A vehicle that is unregistered is different than a vehicle that is insured. As long as you have the vehicle insured (assuming comprehensive insurance), you would have no problem of making a claim, as long as the vehicle is not used that will make the claim or insurance void. But having the vehicle insured and stationary, you can claim against the insurance.
See if the other party has insurance (but from your question, it seems not).

I hope this helped a bit.
