What are the laws regarding Victorian motor vehicles that create excessive noise pollution? While loud cars seem relatively rare, the roads are absolutely plagued with motorcycles that can be heard from multiple city blocks away over the din of every other vehicle in the vicinity.

Who is supposedly responsible for enforcing noise pollution restrictions on vehicles under Traffic Law? And why does it not seem to be happening: is it due to legal loopholes, lack of resources, or some other reasoning?

One last thing, if a member of public was to have knowledge of the registration number of an offending vehicle (say a motorcycle with straight pipes), is there anything they can do legally with that information to force the owner to fix there noisy machine?

Really, nothing? About the same response you get from Police, EPA, Vic Roads, and Local council - although they usually pass the buck instead of staying completely silent.

Police are too busy catching the public going 3 kmh over the limit.

You just have to be persistent. Took someone I know 2 years and the threat of legal action to have noisy dogs removed. They did things by the book though. Thought it would have been easy to have 2 or 3 bikies turn up on the dog owners doorstep one night giving them the proper 'encouragement'.

Keep logs and medical records. There may come a day when that information is needed.
