Hi all, I was wondering if I get a name change through Births, Deaths and Marriages, would I come up on a "national police check" for new employment and/or volunteering? I have been convicted of several common assaults and DUI's. Last conviction was common assault nearly three years ago. I have been sober since my last conviction and am now studying and looking to change my career to helping others but am worried I can't even volunteer.

...and if you are a registerable person, then trying to change your name can be an offence in itself.

then no, you don't get to hide your offending behind a new name.
