Hi, my son had a child to a girl whom he only knew for three months. When the child was two months old they tried to make a go of it but failed. The child is now three. Since then he has had a dna testing to confirm that he was the father, but she didn't put him on birth certificate. Child support has been paid, backdated from the day he was born, not when DNA was done. Is this right? Also she is taking child out of country and said she doesn't need father's signature for passport. Is this right?

If he's not on the birth certificate, he will struggle with exercising parental responsibility (such as restricting travel out of Australia) so I suggest getting this amended as soon as possible. Contact the office of births, deaths and marriages for information about this.

In relation to the child support amount, I would contact the CSA and discuss the situation to check.
