The father of my child is currently listed as unknown on the birth certificate. I had paternity DNA testing with the only other possibility and it came back negative. I am 99% sure this other man is the father of my child. He wishes to be added to the birth certificate, but should I request a paternity test with him just to be 100% certain?

I wouldn't want to get in trouble if on the off chance he wasn't actually the father.

This isn't really a legal matter, it's one for you to decide, but I would argue it's best to be certain about who the father is because of the obligations that come with having that name on the birth certificate, such as child support, shared parental responsibility, etc.

Hope this helps.
