Hi,

Hope you're all doing good.

I am renting a property with a cotenant in NSW. I was out of the country for 3 weeks and I had a cousin who wanted to stay at my place for 3 days while I was away.

I spoke to the real estate agent and he was ok with it. So I messaged my friend saying that my cousin would be coming for a couple of days. He got back saying that he will call the police if somebody comes in my absence.

I showed him the email I sent to the agent about my cousin coming but he still didn't listen and continually threatened by saying that he will call the police. With this my cousin couldn't stay at my place.

He doesn't speak to me for no reason and I find him mentally unstable and aggressive. With what has happened and his threats about calling the police for no reason (the agent has confirmed that the police has no role to play here if I invite someone to stay at my place) I would like to discontinue staying with him as I feel unsafe when he is around. My wife feels unsafe too because he slams the door to the front yard when my wife is in the kitchen.

Can I report it to the police about this threat? And can I possibly get rid of him and lead a better life.

Thanks

Rod

No. He is within his rights to object to other people staying in the shared property.

Re-negotiate with him or the landlord. If your wife is feeling unsafe it may be grounds to obtain approval from the landlord. I'd at least put the request and reason in writing, thereby putting the landlord on notice if something does happen.

No. He is within his rights to object to other people staying in the shared property.

But I had approval from the agent and it wasn't a break in. The agent mentions that the police has no role to play it I've invited someone. And at the same time, his parents were staying in the property without my consent.

Can't renegotiate with him as he doesn't talk. Yes that's a good idea of speaking to the landlord about it. Or I can report it to the police too about it. Though he hasn't said anything to my wife but he just gets aggressive by slamming the doors when me and wife are around.
