My friend's house burned down recently and news reports stated that there was 3 rooms in the house dedicated to hydroponic setup growing cannabis. This friend denies that this is true and says the media is confused with another house fire in the same area. There was a full to news segment with footage of them at the fire etc too.

I saw that the NSW police Facebook page released a statement about the fire not naming names and I also found the court info with the case number and what date and courthouse the hearing would be at on the law link website.

This friend is now telling people that the police have apologised to them for the mix up. How feasible is this? Would the court info still be on the court list if this story is in fact true?

Doesn't matter. Looks like a defamation to me. *sighes thinking I'd like to run with this... potential easy win...

Keep the news report handy and take copies of the Facebook page.

So you think that this person could be telling the truth that they haven't been asked to appear in court for growing cannibis despite their name and case being on the case lists?

Hmm, my bad, from your post I thought you had personal knowledge (ie had been in the house) and knew your friend was innocent.

If your friend's name is in the court lists it doesn't look good. Police don't often make an id mistake like this, though saying this, it can happen.

All good ☺️ I rang the courthouse today and they told me the case had been adjourned and reassigned to the district court, so it definitely is going ahead and looks like with a commercial quantity.
