Good day! I am an Australian citizen that has been charged with recklessly causing a serious injury in 2008 and as my court date approached in late 2009, I chose to leave for Thailand. There was no bail and I did not sign any paperwork requiring me to be present at court, I just had police visit my house in middle 2009 and hand me over a letter of appearance in court. I do know there was a warrant for my arrest in 2010, as a detective visited my parent's house and told them so. Now I do know that there is no time limitation for that kind of crime (is there, lol?), so my question is: can I legally and freely move to New Zealand, using my status as Australian citizen? I know they have a few rules disqualifying Australians from migrating there, but they all are to do with having convictions with prison time served, which I do not have (yet).
