Hi all, thanks for your time.

Brief snapshot of scenario:
Person 1 enters a transport company in South Australia with a sealed box to be transported by road, to Western Australia.
Person 1 pays for transport, transport company gives consignment note and takes package.
Person 1 leaves.
Transport company says they're "suspicious of the delivery" and opens the box to inspect the contents

My question is this;
Is the transport company permitted to open a package without consent?

It's hard to say without seeing the T&Cs of carriage,
but there can be a contractual term consenting to it.

Further, there are a number of other reasons relating
to their own broader legal duties that boil down to
"...almost certainly, yes".
