Glasshalfull... Mate, I know of at least one case on this site where the ex had the car but wasn't the registered owner... The ex enjoyed parking the car where ever and all the parking fines went to him...

Kinda like the shoplifting a banana - The thing here is this guys ex is the registered owner of the car... If the car was stolen the cops would check the rego to determine who is the legal owner...

Lesson learnt. Don't be blinded by love. If someone can't get finance for a car on their own, don't do it for them.

Does the car act as security on the loan?

This ^^^^^ If the car is not security for the loan, they won't/can't repo it.... So that's the first question. If it is, then they may still need a court order to repo it since it's not in your possession.... Another potential problem for you is if she (the registered owner) has comprehensive insurance cover on the vehicle, which is normally mandatory on a vehicle that is security on a loan....

Best thing you can do is call the loan company, explain the situation & work with them... If they can repo the vehicle, they will have to then give you a written valuation,& you will then have the opportunity (21 days I think) to either pay the costs & take possession, or offer up the name of someone who is willing to take it over
