NSW Lemon Used Car - please help

Hi,
I brought a used car from a dealership 13 days ago and I am certain it is a ‘lemon’. It has been blowing smoke relentlessly and I was pulled up this morning by the police for it... great start to a Monday.

I took it to a local mechanic and he immediately was of the opining hat the motor is totally stuffed

Does anyone have any idea what my next step should be and what are
My chances of either getting a refund or being able to ‘exchange’ if it is the motor. They have told me to bring it to them so their mechanics can assess it but I am concerned they will try to come up with some other reason it is blowing smoke!

Any advice would be so appreciated. I am a school teacher not flushed with money and feel like I have been taken for a ride... such a terrible feeling

The car dealer will 'nurse' your car through the warranty period just doing the barest minimum to keep it going then your on your own.

Why people think buying a car from a dealer is safer than private sales is beyond me?? If you had bought the car privately and the engine was stuffed, you could take the couple of grand you saved buying privately and put a new engine in it, so what you would end up having is the same car you have now for the same price, with a new engine in it!

I should point out not to give up taking your car back to the dealer, you should definitely take it back, who knows, the problem may be to sever to fudge and the have no choice but to replace the engine? Unlikely, but possible!

Hi, I'm having the same issues..just brought a car from a car dealer however he sold it to me on false pretenses..he told me there was nothing wrong with the car however in the 4 weeks I've had it, I've had it back to him 3 times to do the timing belt, a broken engine mount, service (service hadn't been done for 18 months) & now it's going back again for the pully/tensioner. He would of been better off giving my money back. The issue I'm now having with him is he is not supplying me with any paperwork of the work being done, so I can't be sure 100% if he's doing the work. I'm trying to find out if I can get a refund due to him not selling me a roadworthy car, lied about the car not having any issues upon purchase.

They have to give you documentation on what they have repaired - because repairs have statutory warranty themselves (i think?)
