We agreed to 'go solar' after an unsolicited call from a company and general encouragement by the govt. We installed 20 solar panels and 5kw system 2years ago after receiving advice from sales rep to expect our quarterly bill to drop to between $60-$100. Our bill remains at $450 to $650. The supplier is difficult and denies this advice was given.

The Office of Fair Trading QLD
can't do anything. Please help us.

Is it true that savings from solar energy is determine/influenced by how many of my neighbours have solar panels and what size? If so, this was not disclosed to us by the sales rep and is the gov't responsible for providing suitable infrastructure in the community to receive the supply provided locally. Feeling very mislead by both parties and greatly out of pocket for no saving.

Thanks.

Get an independent electrician familiar with solar power to check everything is working properly. Sounds like you may not actually be using the solar power the system is generating.

The 'inverter working properly' can mean different things. It may be working, but where is the electricity going from the solar cells? Are they being shaded and not generating much power? Do you have grid connect and are feeding power back into the grid (should show on your bill)?

You need to pay for a proper report with an analysis and a conclusion, not a simple 'inverter working' if you want to get to the bottom of this problem. At face value this is not a legal issue. You are better off finding an active forum on solar power to help you.

I feel the company falsely advised us we would massively reduce our power bill to $60 to $100 by purchasing and installing their product. The system hasn't generated $60 worth of power for the quarter. If our system is limited to what others have operating in our street then they failed to disclose this too us. We would not have purchased and now paying interest on the loan if we had been informed of this.
