WA Insurance asking for original contract with car rental company to be sent to them

Hi,
I insured the access on a rental vehicle with the RAC. I then made a claim online through the company they are agents for.
The insurer asked for me to upload a list of documents which I have in full. That included all documents I have received from the car rental company including a copy of the signed contract . They then asked for me to send them the original signed contract to their postal address.

My question is: is it legal for them to request that I send the original contract to them? If I send the original contract I no longer have proof, what if it is lost in postage? what if they loose it?...

In my experience, they would only usually ask if they suspect the document has been modified in some way. If you disagree with their approach you can make a complaint with AFCA.
