I received a $300 fine in 1983! I noticed in WA they have spent convictions. How does a spent conviction work in QLD? Is it Australia wide?

Thanks couldn't find anything on the net.

Thank you

Kindly,

Hi,

Yes QLD does have a spent convictions scheme. Was your fine incurred in QLD? Spent convictions only apply to convictions of substantial criminal offences, not traffic or driving offences - things that would normally appear on your criminal record.

In Qld, after10 years you can declare that you have no convictions (and your criminal record will not show any convictions) if you were not imprisoned or you were imprisoned for less than 30 months and you haven't broken the law since your conviction.

It doesn't wipe them from your record completely, certain gov departments, courts etc will have access to the conviction record for certain purposes.
