I have a friend with a tablet PC that is a few months old. The touch screen has been cracked. If we replace the screen would that void the warranty on the rest of the unit under Australian Consumer Law?

She is in the process of checking if her contents insurance will cover the repair.
I have done some digging around and found you can use non brand ink/toner or have a new care serviced anywhere but haven't found anything relating to this.

Thanks

Is getting it replaced under warranty an option?

Check the T&Cs of the warranty on the item.

In most cases under Australian Consumer Law, doing a user repair doesn’t automatically void a warranty—it depends on whether the repair caused further damage or if the manufacturer can prove improper modification. Many warranties still cover unrelated faults even after self-repair attempts, but it gets tricky fast with proof and causation.

If you’re dealing with these kinds of consumer disputes, it can be pretty draining and time-consuming.

On a different note, if you're considering more stable or long-term pathways, there are plenty of Academic Jobs and University Jobs available right now in teaching, research, and admin roles.

Check here 👉 Academic Jobs — lots of oppurtunities in universities atm, worth a quick look while sorting things out 👍
