Hi,

Can someone please clarify for me if it is illegal under privacy laws for a person to access personal information about another person, without permission, on that other person's computer and then delete, modify or steal that person's private and personal information?

In simple terms, I was finally able to retrieve my iPad from my former spouse only to find that she has completely deleted everything that I previously had stored on it.

Hi Dwayne,

Deleted isn't always deleted so I would take it to a specialist data recovery place. The problem you have is that your former spouse had access (was able to log in to the ipad) and there is nothing to say she deleted anything. If it didn't have any security it may have been done by anyone that was at the location it was kept.

I really don't think it would be something you could prove was done by your ex.

If the information is important to you, do not use the Ipad again. Take it straight to an Apple repair centre and see what they can recover.

The more you use the device, the greater the chance any remaining portion of deleted files will be overwritten.
