I was charged over two years ago with assault. This incident was due to my excessive drinking.

I realise I was on a downward spiral and after I was charged, I put myself into rehab. I was in rehab for 11 months and have been out for nearly six months. Since being in rehab, I have trouble getting a job in my profession as a nurse. Can I apply to have this charge removed?

No. Criminal records serve a purpose. Being able to delete your record whenever its inconvenient for you would defeat this purpose. The conviction will likely become spent in 10 years, for some purposes. However certain jobs will still require you to disclose the conviction even after it is spent.
