HI,

I have rented a holiday home after finding it online on stayz and Airbnb. The owner offered reduction if I book privately without a formal contract and prepayment. The place is not not as described and is dirty.

The owner is reluctant to offer compensation or a refund if I move out early, so he can find other tenant. What rights do I have to press for compensation?

Thanks

Hi,

I'm not familiar with stayz or Airbnb but is this an overseas booking or internal to Australia. Regardless I would say that you are in a bad spot. I have a feeling that if you booked through stayz or Airbnb you would have the security of the contract but as you have waived that security I'm really not sure there is much you can do.

In theory you still have an contract but its not documented other than messages between you? You could try to seek compensation through small claims court.
