Hey everyone

Not sure where this question should go, so please bear with me.

No doubt people have seen the news coverage of the two or three young ladies who may have done the wrong thing by not providing the full details of their recent travel to the relevant authorities in QLD, and led to a massive panic/ testing for COVID in the community.

I was abit disturbed at the trial-by-media and some of the comments/ threats posted against the ladies on the news and social media outlets. And now there' allegations they've been linked to various crime syndicates (??!).

While not providing relevant and full disclosure to authorities like border police is wrong, and led to a real and public health issue, I'm not in favour of naming and shaming people (that's why we have a legal system and authorities who can take appropriate actions).

Just curious, what recourse would these ladies have if they ever found out who exposed them and their families to these threats? (if any?) I would've thought people are innocent until proven guilty, and that their names and faces and residence, etc, would be subject to privacy? At least until it goes court? Or am I wrong?

Sorry if I'm not putting this across the right way (long day!!)

Appreciate your thoughts!! (Always learn alot on here!)

Pretty much nothing.
I would've thought people are innocent until proven guilty
This concept is only in play once a person is charged.
... and that their names and faces and residence, etc, would be subject to privacy?...
In Australia, there is no general right to privacy of the kind your thinking about.

Thank v much Tim!! Much appreciated!

Sounds like the QHRC stepped in and said something. Plus others who offered support - which is good cos I was worried about the mental well-being of these ladies and their families and friends.
