A Family member completed the Death Certificate of another family member who died, the information left of her husband and three daughters. He did this to make it easier to claim property that the deceased had overseas as he was the only sibling or relative on the death certificate. He then took that certificate to his friend who is a solicitor who prepared the deceased will. The solicitor then signed it as a true and correct copy knowing full well that the certificate was incorrect. What should I do.

Dear Skateboard,

Not enough info to assess. However generally:

1. If you believe the Family member did not do the right thing, seek legal advice, you may need to challenge the estate, and there is strict timeframe to do so.

2. If you believe someone committed fraud, lodge a police report. Police may take action if they found evidence of a crime.

3. If you believe the solicitor did something wrong, call law society of that state the solicitor is in on your options to lodge a complaint.

You may need to seek legal advice.

Good luck!
