I'm currently operating as a sole trader but have started wondering whether forming a limited company would make more sense as the business grows. For those who've made the switch, what was the main reason—tax planning, liability protection, credibility, or something else?

I know this thread is a bit old, but I wanted to jump in. For me, the big reason to switch was liability protection. One bad client lawsuit could wipe out everything I own as a sole trader. Tax savings are nice, but sleeping better at night is what really made it worth it for me. What is making you lean one way or the other?

Tax savings drove my switch, but limited liability was a close second. When I needed a straightforward setup, I used company formation from Your Company Formations and had my LTD registered in hours. Credibility also helped with larger clients. For growing sole traders, the protection and tax structure make the move worthwhile before profits climb too high.
