Hi. I work for a hotel that has been under new ownership for around 1 year. I've worked as restaurant manager in the fine dining restaurant for many years. Ever since I've been there the tip distribution has been 80 % / 20 % front of house / kitchen. No one has ever complained about this. Recently our new head office (remotely located) changed the policy, so the distribution changes to roughly 30 % / 70% front of house / kitchen. This is a loss of around $30 per shift for front of house staff, and $7k pa for a full-time team member. I know tips exist in a grey area. Is this change in any way questionable legally? Do staff have grounds to legally challenge this? Thank you.
