I have another question. I took over the position of Store Manager after the 7 year Store Manager went out on Workcover. He was looked after by the company and has now been sacked but the employer is negotiating with workcover to look after him.

Is it ok for the Area Manager to have a Store Trainee Manager (over the phone) open the old Store Manager's pay slip and fax it through to another store? We have always maintained high privacy with regards to our pay and now the Trainee Manager knows what the Store Manager's rate of pay and entitlements are?

Hi broomie21

Speaking in general terms, it's important to ensure that private information is only used for its intended purpose. No doubt certain people in the organisation will need access to the ex-Store Manager's private information in the course of the dispute. While it may be convenient to fax details between junior employees it's more important to maintain privacy standards even if doing so requires more leg work.
