Hi

My mother has been in a nursing home since last year. I just found out her estranged husband has a superannuation payout of $34,000 which is 50 - 50 and her mean test fee jumped from 3.09 to 11.97 a day which means her pension doesn't cover the fees. They have separate bank accounts.

When she went into the home he left everything for me to look after so I have the power of attorney. (we don't talk). Is she entitled to half and how do I go about it?

Thanks

Estranged ("sepatared"), or divorced?
What does the super fund manager say?

Hi Tim,

They are separated by illness which is what Centrelink has them down as I am not privy to the super fund manager.

Who is the nominated beneficiary on the super account?

Don't know who is beneficiary. Would not tell me.
Do you have a properly executed Power of Attorney?
If so, what reason did they give to not recognise it?
