My (ex) partner and I have managed to come to an informal agreement between ourselves about our family law issues. Do I need to speak with a family lawyer or can I just rely on what we’ve agreed?

You might as well see a family lawyer just to check that you’re actually getting a fair deal. If you don’t know the law inside out, how do you know that you’re accepting all that you’re legally entitled to receive? You’re first meeting with a family lawyer should not be that expensive, and one might be all you need.

Perhaps go to a family lawyer to make your agreement binding – you want to avoid a situation where your informal agreement is ineffective and then your former partner tries to seek more money later on.
