VIC False accusation on Facebook

Hello, just wondering if someone accuses you on Facebook of stealing money that is commented on by others and liked by the person making the allegation also, if this is a false accusation which it is, is this a crime? Also if this person also made this statement to a daughter of the victim which led to the daughter making a similar post on Facebook which was seen and commented on by others does this impact the severity of the action.

It can be criminal defamation, but rarely used by police.

You can sue for civil defamation.
