So confused - my boyfriend was visiting interstate... and on a bad night was caught and charged with high range drink driving. (Yes he is aware he needs help).

We attended the hearing back at the area he was caught, and he was disqualified for 9 months, and a 2 yr interlock.
All good, he accepts all of that.

But he recently received a letter advising the disqualification period is 5 years?? We both heard and saw the 9 month term, the court even emailed confirmation - so why has it changed??

Nobody seems to be be able to give him an answer.
Legal aid says its because he moved states since the charge. Um, nope....he has been a resident here for 15 years and was over the border for the one night, then returned there for court, thats all.

And while he accepts he cannot drive, his license is still current... does anyone know for sure if disqualifications are Aust wide?? Can one state enforce a loss of another states license??
He has actually asked the police, traffic authority and legal aid in both states, and the court, and nobody will give him a straight answer :-/
Obviously he wants to get back to work if he can - but he needs a license, and we just want to know is it 9 months or 5 years?? Anyone else had this issue??
