Hi,
I am writing a story where one of my characters was responsible for a car crash that killed someone. I was wondering the approximate time it would take to sentence someone in this situation(from the time they committed the crime) if they were to plead guilty? Would it be reasonable that they could still not have been sentenced 9-12months after the accident or would it be well and truly over by that point?

The reason I ask is that I have read that pleading guilty often makes the process happen very quickly but looking at media reports of people involved in similar cases(in Australia), the convicted often seem to be sentenced at least 9-10 months after the event, sometimes longer. Is this normal?
