Hi

Can anyone point me in the right direction on the specific traffic law about obstructing a speed camera, or are there any laws relating to the matter?

For example, if a car is broken down on the side of the road with the hazard lights on and was partially blocking the view of the camera, is there a charge relating to the matter and what are the penalties?

I believe it just comes under the offence for Obstructing Police, in which case, your intention to hinder or resist is not material.

If you took it to court, it would become your burden to prove the breakdown was legitimate, in which case, say you have a duty to pull over as soon as it is safe to do or the vehicle was slowing and you did not have the ability to stop anywhere else.

It may not have been deliberate to park in front of a camera, in which case, you have to successfully convince the magistrate of this fact or you will lose.

Don't like our chances without evidence from a mechanic.
