    Hi Marcus,
    There are certain eligibility tests that apply - For example, have a look at the Legal NSW page "Legal aid eligibility tests". It might be best to call up the relevant legal aid office in you State/territory to confirm whether you're eligible.

    Nationality of the applicant is not decisive in itself.

    The eligibility tests (as they operate in NSW) are linked above.

    It might help us make further suggestions if you can tell us a bit about the trouble the UK citizen is in.
