This will 100% work, Australia will recognise the marriage, and you can divorce via Australian courts instead, as we recognise UK marriages. I was going to to do this, but my ex and I decided we never wanted to assume we were married. Plus you also risk legal issues as the second its changed, you're entitled to each others assets under Australian law.

I'm personally just going to wait until i have a decent holiday back in the UK to do it there.

Hi LukeyG, Thanks for the confirmation, I was worried because no one else has recommended this, it was just an idea. I guess this route needs both people to be on the same page with regards to assets, trust and how well the separation went. I'm happy with my ex that we would remain amicable through the process, we are still good friends. And yes I know, famous last words right, lol.

Maybe I'll post back after we get through the process.
