My daughter needs to get her son (almost 3) a birth certificate, but the ex-partner, who is named on the registration form won’t provide an I.D. for the application. Without a birth certificate, she can’t have his name put on a Medicare card or enrol him in child care or even see a doctor.

How can she get a birth certificate without having to involve the ex as he can be violent and she doesn’t want to stir up a hornets nest? (Again)

Thanks.

Why does a 3 yr old not have a birth certificate?

Plan A = get a new birth certificate application form without dad's name? Not sure if that is possible...But if it is do that.

Plan B - go to Centrelink and ask them to help...

Plan C - she should contact Legal Aid they are likely to help.

Contact Births Deaths and Marriages, they are very helpful, why, because they get paid to issue you with a new copy approx $55.
You need to supply 3 items of identification, and these need to be sighted and the copies sighed by and JP. Then the whole thing along wioth your reciept of payment gets posted off. Just went through it, it was all very simple, just a little time consuming.
