I was charged with family violence offences as a result of a separation with my partner of 23 years. The police informant was a close friend of my son he went to school with and was known to both myself and my now ex partner as well. The last time I saw him was only a few months prior to my arrest when I personally answered the door and welcomed him and his girlfriend into my home for a party my son had invited him to.
I am certain he was advising my partner on the best possible way to remove me from my home well prior to her making a statement. When she did make her statement it was on a Monday morning at the police station he worked at and with him. Police officers from his work place, an hour away, came to arrest me the following Friday so I would be held for the weekend to give my ex partner time to change the locks and move back into the house.
A restraining order was already in place but varied at this point to 5 years and full non contact along with my 16 year old son lisred on it with whom I was living with when she decided to end our relationship and move out months prior. My son and I were as close as any father and son could possibly be. I haven’t seen or spoken to him for 15 months now. At the time of the arrest I was charged with 14 charges with the said police officer listed as the informant.
I’m guilty of family violence, abusive messages and damaging my own property in my own home mainly. I don’t deny it but
I can’t help but feel a little hard done by. He certainly went above and beyond any policing I’ve seen or heard of in similar situations. And Also with the turn of events that happened there after. I’m certain I would have had a far better result if he wasn’t involved that’s for sure.
Can anyone tell me if this can be something along the lines of a conflict of interest? Or any information would be greatly appreciated.
