Our business engaged a lawyer to seek advice on a company we believe is in financial difficulties and owes us a lot of money. The lawyer directly contacted a large bank to inform them we were considering taking action and then informed us that they could not represent us due to conflict of interest (the bank).

This information has been enough for the bank to take action against the company and halt trading before we could serve our breach of payment notice.

Was the lawyer allowed to share the information we supplied with the bank?

If you believe the lawyer acted unfairly and inappropriately you can file a complaint with the Legal Service Commissioner.
