Hi,

My drivers licence has been suspended due to non-payment of speeding fines. Fine was for a low level speeding and my record is overall clean. Only reason fine wasn't paid was because of miscommunication with my husband along with factors such as mail not being received.

Question is whether the suspension will be permanently recorded against my name?

A record can have a very negative impact on my employment opportunities. If it is recorded what options do I have to get it removed from my name?

Thanks

Hi,

Sorry to hear about that, but yes, it will always be recorded on your record. If you pay your fines and they remove the suspension, it will be on your record for both situations. If anyone requires your recorded, you can explain why you have those on your record.

I think I had a similar situation, but not sure if I was suspended or not. I got a ticket before travelling overseas (for a good while) and I called them to inquire about something. I found out that I had an unpaid parking ticket. I paid the ticked and got waived from the delay fees, but that is still on my record.

Hope that helps... Good luck.

Not getting mail is pretty much never accepted as an excuse.
This is because the onus is on a licence holder to keep RMS up to date on their address.

They are 2 separate areas. Will there be a permanent record with the courts regarding losing your license? Yes, of course.

Will there be a negative impact to employment opportunities? Well, this depends.

Let's say you wanted to be highway police patrol or a government chauffeur, etc, etc, etc. Then I'd probably look for other jobs. But if you are concerned about employment questions of "Have you ever had a driving conviction" and you are then on a full license with zero demerit points, whilst applying for a forklift driver position! Then me personally? I'd say I'm perfectly clean.

What access do you think employers have? They will not search the courts for years ago driving convictions when you present your present (well later on when you get it back) perfect driving record.

Some here may get a bit nitpicky on laws of employment contract etc. But again it really depends on the professional/laborer/ 'driving' role you may ever apply for. Put it this way, my driving record is absolutely perfect for well over 25 years.

Oh, by the way I lost my license in a drag with my XU1 about 30 years ago, and here I am being in all sorts of 'driver required' roles. You are not guilty until a judge says you are, that's my view :)

It is important to understand that, unless you have been to court and been through a trial, you have not been convicted of anything.
