Hi there,

I just received a one demerit point speeding fines in the mail (I did speed). I am currently on a 12-month suspended sentence of my drivers licence under green P plate restrictions. Obviously paying this fine will mean getting my drivers licence suspended for 6 months.

My question is, how long can I drag out the process before my suspension will start? I am actually going away for 6 months in June so it would be perfect if I can drag it out until then.

Thanks.

Hi,

Are you still dragging it out? Only two and a half months to go.

Maybe ask a criminal/traffic lawyer. Some may give an initial discounted appointment. Each state law and process may differ. Usually if you don't pay it will delay it, but then the fine maybe eventually confirmed & you may need to ask to go to court which will delay it which may lead to some monetary cost. But you may be able to then admit being at fault - but there would be a cost on top of the fine. Check you local state process, ask a lawyer. In Qkd & NSW the above has been possible - don't know about Vic.
