Dear LawAnswers,
Recently, I was offered a new dream job, so I resigned from one of the largest multinational companies in the world. Left on great terms with everyone. My manager said I can return if my new position did not work out well, etc.
Last day, as requested, I handed in every piece of company property in my possession. Laptop, building access cards, etc. I even left company pens. I was quickly accused by HR and I.T. of not returning a second laptop. Stealing it. My managers were contacted. I had missed calls and messages from them asking to urgently call as I was being accused of theft.
In the middle of doctor appointments, medicals, pathology appointments, nervously studying for my Australian Citizenship Test (miraculously and thankfully passed and scored 100%), selling my car, packing up a house, booking flights...I was beyond busy and by the time I got around to returning calls, it was all sorted. They found the record of the returned Laptop. It was found and all was fine. I received a text to say 'no need for meeting on Monday, we found the laptop'. No apology. Nothing.
Relieved and thankful it was sorted but...Now I am horrified and so embarrassed to think, all my colleagues would have known that I was accused of stealing this laptop. This great company, that I've lost all respect for, genuinely thought I stole from them. What a horrible ending.
What is your opinion?
Kind regards,
