I recently separated from my husband and moved into a new house with my 2 little boys. My husband and I have not gone through a financial separation or decided on the custody of children as he currently has no money or the facility to take care of the boys overnight for an extended period of time.

I have been married since 2006 and have been financially supporting my family for the majority of the time since my husband struggled to find work. My parents recently sold an asset for a substantial amount of money of which I will receive $500,000 as an inheritance payment. This asset that was sold is not associated with my husband in anyway. Can my husband make a claim for any of this money?

Does that mean that someone can make a claim on any money you receive for any period of time after you separate because you don't have a divorce and property settlement?
