Hi everyone,

We recently had our old driveway replaced by a concrete company in Brisbane. We know nothing about driveways so assumed they did
We received a letter from the council saying it's not the correct legal size and that it needed permission from them to get this done in the first place

My question is, should the concrete company pay to rectify this? We left it up to them thinking they were professionals. I've contacted the company who said they didn't know you needed permission

Any help would be appreciated

I'd ask the concreter to put their response in writing and give them a chance to fix it before taking it to Fair Trading or considering small claims. Keep photos and any receipts.

I had a similar situation a few months ago and ended up getting a second opinion from emersonproservices.com. They helped me figure out which parts of the job weren’t up to standard and explained what I could reasonably expect the contractor to fix. Having that info made it much easier when I talked things through with the concreter. You might find it useful to get their take too.

Concrete repair is an important investment for homeowners and business owners who want to maintain safe, durable, and attractive concrete surfaces around their properties. Over time, driveways, sidewalks, patios, garage floors, parking lots, and other concrete structures can become cracked, uneven, or sunken because of shifting soil, water erosion, poor drainage, heavy traffic, and natural ground settlement. These issues can create tripping hazards, interfere with proper drainage, and negatively affect the overall appearance and functionality of a property. Professional concrete repair services help identify the underlying causes of damage and provide suitable solutions to restore the condition of affected surfaces. When concrete slabs sink or become uneven, an experienced concrete lifting contractor can evaluate the extent of settlement, inspect the supporting soil, and recommend an appropriate lifting or stabilization method. Concrete lifting can often restore sunken slabs closer to their original position without the need for complete removal and replacement, potentially reducing material waste, construction disruption, and repair costs. Depending on the condition of the concrete, additional repair services may include filling cracks, patching damaged sections, repairing joints, resurfacing worn areas, and improving drainage to prevent future deterioration. Addressing the underlying causes of concrete damage is essential for achieving reliable results and reducing the likelihood of recurring problems. Property owners should also schedule regular inspections, monitor changes in concrete surfaces, and ensure that rainwater flows away from foundations, driveways, and walkways. Choosing knowledgeable professionals who use suitable materials and proven repair techniques can help improve the durability and performance of existing concrete. Whether you are dealing with a sinking driveway, uneven sidewalk, damaged patio, or deteriorating commercial floor, timely concrete repair can improve safety, restore usability, enhance curb appeal, and extend the service life of your property while helping you avoid unnecessary replacement expenses.
