Hi,

I lent an old friend of over 20 yrs $2200. It was clear it was a loan and that he agreed to pay it back within 90 days. That was a month ago and now I have been blocked on Facebook, he has my number blocked and moved in the last fortnight.

Do I have a leg to stand on here? How can I track him down to take it further?

I was foolish to trust a loan like that, but I thought he respected my friendship enough to repay. I stupidly didn't ask for a promissory note but have all texts and FB inboxes saved as evidence.

Can someone please offer me some help?

Hi Cockatoo,

You could try the electoral roll to find out where the friend lives. Or pay a private investigator to locate them.

If by take it further you mean go to court and you still cannot locate the friend, you can apply for substituted service, which is serving the friend the court documents by another method of service such as email or at the workplace etc.

Good luck.
