My brother and his accountant did some very unusual accounting involving the transfer of millions of dollars out of Australia and then back again claiming it was the income of another family member whom they wanted to qualify for a bank loan.
The ATO investigation has been ongoing and I became aware that his accountant has given our family trust accounts and tax records to KPMG to get examined. Why would KPMG have to become involved? Can I get a copy of the KPMG file or subpoena these records even though there is no matter before the court at the moment and how much will it cost?
