Hi I am going through the process of financial settlement after a 17 year marriage. I contributed $200,000 at the start of the relationship he had no contributions. My question is after 17 years will there be any % in the settlement adjusted for this.

The duration of the relationship matters. Each year that passes that initial contribution becomes less important. After 17 years I would not think you've got a case for an adjustment in your favour.

Hi Sam Smith

Your prior financial contributions are a significant factor the court will take in to consideration when assessing the division of assets.

Without knowing the background to the contributions it is difficult to say the weight the Court will give to your prior contributions.
