To get my belongings and important documents, how do I alter or variate the DVO the qld police put in place?

I take it you're the Respondent? Is it a temporary protection order or a final order?

You could speak to the police. Alternatively, if the matter is listed to be heard at court for the purposes of making a final order you could raise this with the court.
