Good morning, I am hoping you can help. I am a teacher and was contracted at the start of this school year 2015 as a Kindergarten teacher in a childcare centre on a maternity placement. My employment contract is from 21 January 2015 to 1 July 2015. Yesterday I was told I am finishing on 1 June 2015.

My question: Can the centre terminate my contract? I have not been told why - I guess its possible the teacher on maternity leave is wanting to come back early.

I appreciate your clarification in this regard before I approach my employer.

    Many thanks.

    Hi Caryn,

Have a good read of your contract and the enterprise agreement or award it was made under. What does it say about contract termination? How much notice do they need to give you? Under what circumstances does it say they can terminate? Does it say whether they have to continue paying you until July?
