NSW Drivers Licence Suspension - Appeal Sentence?

Hey I lost my drivers licence 2 weeks ago for 2 years and 2 months for driving whilst disqualified. It is my first time getting done for this. The Judge said that is lowest penalty for the traffic law offence though my dad's been given 6 months before.

Could I appeal the decision and try get it to reduced to a year or less? I've got a young baby and work and Tafe as a reason for needing a drivers licence.

Hi there,

The minimum disqualification period for driving whilst disqualified is 12 months for a first offender. Have a look at the penalties on the RMS website: http://www.rms.nsw.gov.au/roads/safety-rules/offences-penalties/unlicensed-driving-offences.html

You can appeal the decision to the District court, although you will have to pay a fee (you can apply for fee relief if you are a low income earner). I suggest that you contact Legal Aid NSW and get some legal advice before you appeal.
